An unusual sweet name!

If you ever get offered a Manx Knob don’t worry, you’re not the subject of a sexually lewd comment, they’re just trying to offer you a boiled sweet much like a mint humbug (and very tasty too).

The name of these sweets caused me to have a bit of a chuckle when I spotted them in the duty free shop of the Douglas airport departures lounge. I found them especially giggle worth when I considered the fact that they were boiled sweets that you needed to suck on!

They certainly did the trick for me up in the air and I got through a fair few of them before landing (I hate the pressure changes you get in your ears when ascending and descending) in Gatwick when I took great delight in offering one to Ben.

Well, one always needs to look for something bright to laugh about!

Isle of Man hotel bedroom views

Just before I checked out of my hotel last week I took the following pictures on the iphone 3GS. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t very nice, so it looks a bit grim. I lugged the Pentax K7 DSLR all the way over there and didn’t get it out once :-S Oh well, such is life.

Hopefully when I go back in a few weeks the weather will be nicer and as I’m there for a whole week I should have a bit more time to get out and about with the DSLR. In the meantime here’s the few iphone snaps to whet the appetite!

On the Isle of Man!

Just a quickie on the move to say I’m in the Isle of Man for work until Thursday evening. I’ve got a sea view from the Hilton hotel and the people seem very nice, but the lack of technological advancement is a bit annoying. However Wealie will persevere and where there’s a Wealie with a will their is definitely a Wealie Way.

I had a very friendly taxi driver from the airport to the hotel, he’s originally a Sheffield man, but has become a local to the Isle of Man for the last 18 years. He told me a bit about the place and gave me a very handy little guidebook, which was very nice.

As I am here for work and flying back home at 5ish on Thursday, there isn’t much time for seeing the Island, but I’m hoping to do a little bit of photography tomorrow afternoon/evening depending on how early I can get out of the office. I’ve brought the new flash gun with me, so even if the light is poor I might be able to get some nice shots.

Anyway, my room service has just arrived, so this is Wealie signing off from the Isle of Man and wondering exactly how expensive Data Roaming is here for the Iphone, ’cause this hotel internet connection is soooooooooooooooooooo slow!
